School Council
Our school council consists of 16 children and age between 6 and 11. We meet once a fortnight under the supervision of Mrs Downton and Mrs Glover.
What is the aim of a school council?
The aim of our School Council is to provide the children of Bovey Tracey Primary School with ‘a voice’, an opportunity to have their opinions heard.
How does it work?
At the beginning of the academic year each class vote for two candidates from their class (one boy and one girl). The candidates with the most votes are then elected to the School Council. There are then elections within the group of a chairperson, treasurer and secretary
What do the school council do?
The councillors talk with their class and listen to any ideas their classmates may have about the school. Each class has a book in which suggestions can be written, it is the responsibility of the school councillors for raising any issues at the fortnightly meetings, and as a group to discuss ideas.
What are our current projects?
The school council is going from strength to strength. Within the school the value of the school council is widely recognised, and the children are getting more and more involved in decisions affecting the school. We often get involved in charity events, last year we held mufti days for two sets of walkers connected with the school raising money for cancer charities and another for a father of some children who attend the school who cycled from London to Paris.
The school council have been appointed to look after the schools interest with regard to fair-trade, and this year we will be looking at trying to achieve Fair Trade Status.
