Safeguarding at Bovey Tracey

Bovey Tracey Primary School is committed to safeguarding all members of the school community and our visitors.

We are fully committed to contributing to effective partnerships between all relevant safeguarding services and other agencies to support the welfare of our children and families.

If you have any concerns about the welfare of a child, please report them immediately one of our Safeguarding Team. your safeguarding concern is outside of usual school working hours and urgent you should contact the Devon County Council Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0345 1551077. For more information regarding MASH you can visit:

Staff and Governors at Bovey Tracey Primary are aware that many children are the victims of different kinds of abuse and that they can be subjected to social factors that have an adverse impact upon their lives – including domestic violence, neglect, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, online abuse or grooming, substance misuse, bullying, mental health problems and radicalisation. We also acknowledge that safeguarding incidents could happen anywhere and staff should be alert to possible concerns arising.

Through our curriculum we teach children to stay safe and happy. We encourage the understanding that any problem or worry that they may have is legitimate, and to share their worries, big or small with their trusted adult; at home; school or with ChildLine.

Staying safe online

With the increased access children have to devices that can connect to the internet, it has never been more important to understand how to be safe when using online content.

Whether children are accessing images, online games, social media platforms or just surfing the web, as part of their homework, they need to remain safe.

At Bovey Tracey Primary School we teach E-Safety to our children as part of our annual PSHE and ICT curriculum. In order to support parents and carers, below are some useful links to help provide information on this important area.

Useful social media parent help guides

Below are a number of guides for parents on some common social media platforms. These have been produced by Thinkuknow in order to highlight the key concepts of each platform and how to remain safe.

Bovey Tracey Primary School has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make a provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
